NEW YORK -- The state is looking for volunteers to help clean up the waterways and walking paths for New York's canal system. The state Canal Corporation said in conjunction with Earth Day, they'll spend the weekend of April 20th through the 22nd cleaning up the 524-mile long system.
They said more than 100 groups took part in the effort last year. The cleanup takes place every year before the start of navigation season. The 188th season is set to open May 1st.
