UTICA, N.Y. -- A Utica police officer was arrested across the border and charged with DWI.

Officer John Abel was arrested in Niagara Falls, Canada, on Nov. 2.

The Utica Police Department confirms that Abel has been suspended without pay during the investigation. City officials will not comment on the case.

The officer led a popular crime prevention program called Armadillo. It shot surveillance footage from many different angles to record suspicious activity in city neighborhoods. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
