The same day she became a U.S. citizen, a U.S. Army veteran celebrated her big day with some shopping and dinner at Destiny USA. And there, she stumbled upon and entered a contest being held by Destiny and Time Warner Cable. Two weeks later, she was at her home on Drum being presented with the grand prize. As our Brian Dwyer reports, she and her family, including her husband that just got home from Afghanistan, can breathe a little easier this holiday season.
FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- At her home on Fort Drum Friday morning, Bianca Dalton, a married mother of three, was presented with the grand prize in the Destiny USA Ultimate Fashion Experience contest: $1,000 in Destiny gift cards, a $600 Marriott Hotel gift card, $500 from Jet Blue, $500 more in cash cards and an hour with a fashion consultant at Destiny USA. That’s $2,600 in all. A big win, especially during the holiday season.
"I am really happy that I can go and shop without looking at the sales. I can just spur and buy stuff for my family and I," Dalton said.
Time Warner Cable teamed up with Destiny USA to hold the drawing. The day she entered, November 15th, Dalton, an Army veteran, was with her husband, who had just gotten back from Afghanistan. They were celebrating that and earlier in the day, she had become a U.S. citizen. They wanted to do some shopping, check out the new stores and eat dinner at the Melting Pot, a new restaurant. But the place was much bigger than the last time they were there.
Dalton said, "He was looking around. I couldn't find my way around because everything is new. So I stopped at the information booth and I saw the little thing to sign up."
And after hearing about the winner, the folks at Destiny thought it had to have been exactly that: Destiny.
"There's always that sense of pride and excitement when you hear that the person who won has a great story and a great background. I think everyone has something to offer, but that added element and someone being from Fort Drum, it's very exciting for us," said Sara Wallace of Destiny USA.
And as for Dalton...
"I'm probably going to go to the mall this weekend or next weekend. Destiny of course," Dalton said.
