UTICA, N.Y. -- After pleading guilty to manslaughter, the Utica man who shot and killed Jermaine Stubbs, 35, last year was sentenced in Oneida County Court Friday.

Jamal Gadson was given 20 years on manslaughter charges for killing Stubbs last July.
Stubbs and Gadson got into an argument on Varick Street, which eventually led to Gadson shooting Stubbs in the head on Lenox Avenue.

When the judge asked if he had anything to say, Gadson said he would take it all back if he could.

Defense Attorney Leland McCormac said, "I don't think he had any design or purpose or intent earlier in that evening or any time during that day to take Mr. Stubbs’ life. I think this was fueled by alcohol, possibly some narcotics. And I think it's a very tragic spontaneous eruption of violence."

Stubbs' death was Utica's only homicide of 2012. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
